Best Distributions GNU / Linux Pentest and Security

The 7 best GNU / Linux distributions for Network Security: Earlier we saw some distros specially designed for data recovery . Today we will see these distros special purpose. These distros are primarily designed to perform security tasks such as auditing network security and penetration testing in order to prevent and monitor unauthorized access, misuse, alteration or denial of network services. Most of them are available as Live CD, so we can quickly try and use them without altering our installed system.
Here are some of the distros (in no particular order) especially designed to secure computer networks:

Based on Ubuntu, is considered one of the most popular among hackers and security entuciastas networks distros. It was created by combining two major distros: Auditor Security Linux (based on Knoppix) and WHAX (formerly Whoppix, based on Slax). BackTrack is equipped with a wide range of security tools and hacking ranging from password crackers to port scanners. It also includes a large collection of exploits as well as common programs like Firefox browser.

Network Security Toolkit (NST)

It is based on Fedora Live CD equipped with tools for network security analysis, validation and monitoring programs that can be used in virtual servers hosting virtual machines. Its main objective is to provide network administrators a comprehensive set of security tools open source. NST is equipped with an advanced web user interface (WUI) which allows you to configure security applications and networks, automation, and other tasks. Other features include a packet capture and protocol analysis system that can monitor more than four network interfaces using Wireshark.

Pentoo

It is a Live CD distro available and Live USB created primarily for penetration testing and security consulting. It is based on Gentoo, is available for 32 and 64-bits. Its features include enhanced with packet injection, GPGPU cracking software, and full of good tools for penetration testing inalánbricos drivers. Currently Pentoo has as default desktop to Enlightenment and uses Kernel 2.6.31.6 with lzma and aufs patches.

nUbuntu (Network Ubuntu)

Basically is preloaded with Ubuntu security tools for networks and servers. It features well-known as nmap, dsniff, Ettercap and Wireshark applications. The main functions of nUbuntu as a security testing platform allows advanced users to take advantage of it as a desktop distro. Use the default desktop lightweight Fluxbox window manager.

STD

Although his name might sound very harmful indeed it is very useful. STD stands for Security Tools Distribution. Also known as Knoppix STD, this distro is a customized version of Knoppix and is aimed at professionals and novice users who are comfortable working with the command line. STD features include a number of security tools and network management, which are divided into many categories such as encryption utilities, penetration tools, forensic tools, intrusion detection, packet sniffers, wireless tools, and password crackers.

Helix

It is based on Ubuntu, is a Live CD especialemten designed for systems analysis, data recovery, security auditing and incident response. It can be run in two modes: mode Linux (you boot a native Linux environment) and Windows mode (runs within Windows as a normal application). Helix is principally designed for experienced users and network administrators who work in computer networks and are constantly bombarded with high levels of security breaches and data loss.

Damn Vulnerable Linux (DVL)

It is based on Slackware and Slax is a Live DVD intentionally loaded with corrupted programs, misconfigured, outdated, and exploits for educational purposes. Although not DVL provides tools for network security, you can teach and demonstrate a variety of essential safety topics as web development, SQL injection vulnerabilities in the kernel and other popular programs.
